Dec/25/09 – Post 2

About a week ago I was digging through my garage remembering I had stashed a broken keyboard there. I did find it and with my amazing (not so amazing) soldering skills I managed to get it to power on! It’s a Concert-mate 450, and after a little bit of online research to my amazement… it’s an exact same copy of a Casio SA-20. Not joke, all the components, case, sounds, are identical. Other then the brand name printed on it of course. Anyway I ended up circuit bending it, and it’s almost done for show! Expect a youtube video of it soon.
Also I bought a new device which I’m not going to say what, but I am going to be using it as a midi controller next time I get a gig. You’ll just have to wait and see what it is. ;]

Oscillator + Circuit Bending

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

I built a 555ic oscillator synth about a year ago and only this week did I decide to move it from the breadboard onto a circuit board. It was tough considering it’s my first project, especially since I never used a soldering iron prior to this, and despite all the soldering difficulties it works great. I’m still not quite done, I still have a few more plans so I ordered more parts online.

While being inpatient I decided to breakout a kids toy that was laying around the house and circuit bend it. Bought some batteries and found a bunch of neat points where it can drive you crazy… and I mean it. I found one where it creates such a nasty pitch it feels like there’s a drill going through your head. I’ll have some samples up on this blog in a week or two for sure.
